MAD FOR MONOGRAM
MAD FOR MONOGRAM
A new trend is hitting the streets, and this time it’s personal.

There’s a gorgeous black leather bag with silver detailing, creamy suede lining and shiny zip detail sitting on the conference table with my name on it… Literally. I’ve officially become swept up in the monogramming craze and have the insatiable urge to have my initials stamped on everything.
Lana Hopkins, CEO of custom bespoke handbag and monogram company Mon Purse says she’s not surprised; she knows exactly why the old-fashioned trend of labelling leather is back in vogue. “People are looking to purchase more experiences and meaningful products versus another item that they already have,” she says. “By monogramming and personalising your bag, you have something unique, personal to you.”
And the craze has reached epic proportions. Companies such as Mon Purse, The Daily Edited, Keep it Personal, GAP, Burberry and Louis Vuitton are all offering monogram items from phone cases, notebooks and clutches, to scarves, swimwear and even pyjamas.
Founder and creative director Alyce Tran started her Sydney-based monogramming company, The Daily Edited (tde.), online with her business partner Tania Liu to bring the luxury trend to mass market at an affordable price point. “You can walk into Louis Vuitton and get a passport holder monogrammed for $500 but its not accessible, we can do it here for $70.
“We’re in an age where everyone wants to stand out from the rest, its that selfie and ‘about me’ culture, and I think this taps into that, people love seeing their name on stuff, it’s like their own personal brand.”
The Daily Edited have a range of personalisable leather accessories, desk accents and stationery that allows customers to literally put their stamp of approval on everything.
Mon Purse offers similar monogram options but with one big, notable difference: the ability to design your dream handbag from scratch. You pick the leather colour and type, the handles, the hardware, the lining… you name it, you can customise it. It pretty much guarantees you the handbag of your dreams that’s one of a kind.
Personally I couldn’t decide between the two and now own one piece from each label – a Daily Edited black leather cosmetics bag with gold trim and a Mon Purse grained-leather Bowler bag with silver hardware. And the piece de resistance: the initials EHB shining brightly from the side, literally making my mark on the fashion world.
Now, what else can I get my name on?
